Liszt-marathon
“Create memories for yourself!” – this famous Liszt saying brings a personal touch to the allday Liszt-marathon on 22nd May, as the event organised by Hungarofest KLASSZ Music Office – following the pattern of the highly successful Haydn marathon held in 2009 – once again invites the younger generations to gain memories and experiences, and of course to develop a taste for classical music. A whole series of concerts in a lighter mood and relaxed atmosphere and interactive performances await visitors to these far from formal programmes, where they can meet Tom and Jerry in their eternal cat-and-mouse game, as well as artists combining various music and performing styles. Besides concerts, visitors to the Millenáris park will find craft activities and delicious treats that Liszt himself would have enjoyed. The host of the all-day event is Péter Novák. The programmes are free of entry, except for the two crossover concerts in the evening.
From 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. there will be programmes for all ages in the different venues at Millenáris. The morning programmes are mainly for the younger ones: in a special Chocolate concert, the Csillagszemű Dance Ensemble open the day with their exciting and dynamic performance, based on gypsy and folk music. Again, folk music and also folk tales are in the focus of Mesőke’s performance for children, Ez nem álom… ez mese. Károly Mocsári and Erzsébet Kerek, masked as Tom&Jerry play the well-known Liszt tunes from the popular cartoon story in a piano concert for four hands. At noon, the Millenium Orchestra play Liszt works in gypsy music arrangement for the older ones.
The afternoon starts with Bartók Radio’s live programme, Zenebeszéd, featuring Concerto Budapest and Károly Mocsári. The programme presenter, Gergely Fazekas talks with András Batta, rector of the Liszt Academy of Music, about works of Liszt.
Endre Hegedűs gives a concert at 4 p.m. in the Fogadó, followed by the Weiner-Szász Orchestra. The theme of their concert is the Danube: travelling along the river from country to country, they play pieces from each stop (compositions by Brahms, Schubert, Simai, Bartók and Gotovac).
The evening promises to bring really exciting performances: each one a crossover between seemingly unconnected genres. Concerto Budapest and Muzsikás play together with Károly Mocsári on piano and Kálmán Balogh on dulcimer, which will produce a fresh and unique sound, pleasing the fans of both folk and classical music. The innovative cooperation of the popular, authentic-sounding and -looking Budapest Bár and the widely accalimed Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra close the marathon evening with a joint concert.
